Free Baby Boy Quilt Pattern
Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of life’s most special occasions, and there’s nothing quite as meaningful as a handmade quilt created with love. If you’re searching for an easy free baby boy quilt pattern that combines classic style with simple construction, this free quilt pattern is the perfect project.
Designed using just three fabrics, this quilt creates a beautiful woven effect that looks much more intricate than it actually is. The combination of a dark blue print, a coordinating light blue print, and a crisp white background gives the quilt a timeless look that fits perfectly in a nursery while still feeling fresh and modern. Whether you’re sewing for a son, grandson, nephew, or a friend’s new arrival, this quilt is sure to become a treasured keepsake.
One of my favorite features of this pattern is how approachable it is for quilters of all skill levels. The blocks are made entirely from simple squares and rectangles, making cutting and piecing straightforward and enjoyable. There are no complicated units to construct, yet the finished design creates plenty of visual interest through the placement of the fabrics.
To achieve crisp intersections and a flat quilt top, I used a consistent 1/4″ seam allowance throughout the project and pressed the seam allowances in opposite directions for each row. This allows the seams to nest together neatly and makes assembling the quilt top much easier.
The finished quilt is the perfect size for tummy time, stroller rides, nursery décor, or cuddling with a growing little one. Best of all, the simple design can easily be customized with different fabric collections and colors to suit any nursery theme.
Gather your favorite fabrics, thread your sewing machine, and follow along with the step-by-step instructions below to create a beautiful baby boy quilt that will be cherished for years to come.

Instruction for Free Baby Boy Quilt Pattern

Taking your 16 quilt blocks lay them out on a table to determine your favorite direction look. I have done this in all differnt looks to make a different quilt for each look.
Sew row 1 of your quilt blocks. I use 4 quilt blocks for a baby quilt and then add my border and binding. Irong your seams all in 1 direction. Use a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Continue to sew 4 rows and alternate your ironing to the opposite direction as the previous row.
Once your have your rows completed clip or pin row 1 to row 2 and sew that together using the 1/4″ seam allowance.
Quilt Border

Using a coordinating fabric, measure your quilt and give yourself a 1/2″ extra allowance if new and cut your border the width or length of your quilt and use a 2-3″ border. I prefer a 3″ border but some in our community prefer a 2″ border. Remember you will be sewing a 1/4″ seam allowance.
If you are newer to quilting, your borders are equal for top/bottom and the right and left ones will be slightly larger.
Sew your top and bottom border and press your seams.
Once you are finished with the top and bottom go ahead and add your side borders to your free baby boy quilt pattern.
Quilt and Finish

Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing.
Quilt as desired. Simple straight-line quilting works beautifully with the geometric design, but an all-over meander or loop pattern would also complement the quilt nicely.
Trim excess batting and backing, then attach your binding using your preferred method. We do have a quilt binding calculator to help you find the exact amount of fabric that you need.
