  1. Cut your fat quarter to the following sizes:
    • Cut 1 fabric 14″ x 18″ (front fabric)
    • Cut 1 fabric 15″ x 19″ (back fabric)
    • 3 pieces of batting 15″ x 19″
    • binding (see step 7 for measurements)
  2. Arrange your pieces
    • Place your back piece with right sides down (pretty look) on the bottom of your table. Add your quilt batting on top of that and then your top piece. Center it on your potholder.
  3. Use Safety pins to hold your large quilted potholder pattern in place. Use more safety pins than you think you will need, unless you have been sewing forever.
  4. Add your walking foot to your sewing machine. If you have a bar for your walking foot, add it. It makes it easier to sew lines evenly.
  5. Find the center of your potholder and sew down the center. If you are using a bar you can then move left or right and evenly sew lines. Turn and sew the other side.
  6. Trim off the extra back and batting. It’s easier to do this with scissors. You can use a rotary cutter if you want.
  7. Measure your large quilted potholder and cut your binding 2 1/2″ wide. You may need to sew pieces to make a longer binding strip. Sew the short pieces together, making a large strip of binding.
  8. Press your seam allowance open.
  9. Fold your binding wrong side (ugly sides) together and press.
  10. Add your binding. If you need instructions on how to do that, watch the video below.
