Easy 4 Patch Baby Quilt
This Easy 4 Patch baby quilt is a simple beginner baby quilt pattern. If you have scrap fabrics you can easily use them, and it’s a great quilt to make in various fabrics.

Fabrics
Finished quilt size is 18″ x 23 1/2″. The written PDF has other sizes.
- 1/2 yard of assorted fabric to make your blocks (the blue fabric seen in this quilt)
- 1/3 yard of fabric for border
- 1/4 yard for binding
- 5/8 yard for backing
- 22″ x 28″ of quilt batting
Cut your Easy 4 Patch Baby Quilt Fabrics
From fabric #1 above cut:
- 20 pairs of matching squares 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″
- 20 squares 3 x 3″
From your fabric #2 cut:
- 40 squares 1 3/4″ x 1 3/4″
Cut your Border
- 2 strips 2″ x 18″
- 2 strips 3″ x 20 1/2″
Cut Your Binding
- 3 Strips 1 1/2″ x 42″
Create Your Blocks

Lay out 2 cream/white 1 3/4″ squares and two of your fabric #1 fabric of 1 3/4″ squares in two rows of each. Press your seams going opposite directions before sewing your 4 patch block.
Sew the squares into rows. Join the rows to make a 4 patch quilt block. Make 20 blocks total and each should measure 3″ square. Press your seams up on each block.
This will take the longest when it comes to making your easy 4 patch baby quilt.
Create Your Rows
Lay out three 3″ squares and 2 four patch blocks in alternating positions as you can see in the picture above. Sew your rows and then follow the layout above and create your other rows.
For odd rows press your seams to the right and for your even rows press your seams to the left.
Assemble Your Quilt
Following the mockup above, you want to sew your rows together. Make sure and align the seam intersections between the blocks and squares. This will help your seams line up.
When you finish all your rows, sew your borders doing the sides first pressing your seams to the border and then sew your top and bottom borders pressing your seams again towards the border.
Finish Your Quilt

Go head and quilt your easy 4 patch baby quilt using your machine, hand stitching or long arm. Add your binding when you are finished and you will have a complete quilt.
